Eclipta baut die bei der zellulären Verbrennung entstehenden Stoffe ab, deren Einlagerung zu degenerativen Krankheiten führt wie metabolischem Syndrom, Demenz oder Arteriosklerose. Es wirkt so Blutdruck senkend, antidiabetisch, senkt das Cholesterin.
Weiterhin wirkt es Krebs entgegen, antientzündlich und mindert Schmerzen.

Besondere Wirkungen sind die Anregung des Haarwuchses und der Diurese.

 

  1.    Metabolisches Syndrom

1.1.   Hypertonie

Diuretic, hypotensive, and hypocholesterolemic effects of Eclipta alba in mild hypertensive subjects: a pilot study.

The findings revealed that the Eclipta-supplemented group showed a marked reduction in mean arterial pressure by 15%, total cholesterol (17%), low-density lipoprotein fraction (24%), triglycerides (14%), very-low-density lipoprotein fraction (14%), and plasma lipid peroxides (18%). Results also revealed a remarkable increase in urine volume (34%), urine sodium (24%), serum vitamin C (17%), and serum tocopherols (23%) of the Eclipta group. In conclusion, it would appear that E. alba is diuretic, hypotensive, and hypocholesterolemic and helps in the alleviating oxidative stress-induced complications in hypertensives.

1.2.   Diabetes

Antidiabetic effect of Eclipta alba associated with the inhibition of alpha-glucosidase and aldose reductase.

Treatment of animals after 10 weeks of STZ-treatment with EEA (250 mg kg(-1)) for 21 days significantly reduced the elevated levels of blood glucose, %HbA1C, urea, uric acid and creatinine, and significantly increased the depressed serum insulin level. The results suggest that EEA possesses antidiabetic effect associated with alpha-glucosidase and aldose reductase inhibition.

– Antihyperglycemic activity of Eclipta alba leaf on alloxan-induced diabetic rats.

Oral administration of leaf suspension of E. alba (2 and 4 g/kg body weight) for 60 days resulted in significant reduction in blood glucose (from 372.0 +/- 33.2 to 117.0 +/- 22.8), glycosylated hemoglobin HbA(1)c. Thus, the present study clearly shows that the oral administration of E. alba possess potent antihyperglycemic activity.

1.3.    Hyperlipidämie

The butanol fraction of Eclipta prostrata (Linn) effectively reduces serum lipid levels and improves antioxidant activities in CD rats.

These results clearly demonstrate the effects of E. prostrata on serum lipid and oxidative metabolism in rats. The health-promoting effects of E. prostrata, which were demonstrated in this study in a rat model, may have implications for atherosclerosis and hypercholesterolemia in humans.

– Hypolipidemic activity of Eclipta prostrata (L.) L. leaf extract in atherogenic diet induced hyperlipidemic rats

In atherogenic diet induced hyperlipidemic model, the rats receiving treatment with the aqueous extract of the leaves of E. prostrata showed significant reduction in total cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein and elevation in high density lipoprotein cholesterol. The aqueous extract of E. prostrata was found to possess significant hypolipidemic activity. The results also suggest that E. prostrata leaf extract at 100 and 200 mg/kg b.wt. concentrations is an excellent lipid-lowering agent.

In vivo evaluation of Eclipta alba extract as anticancer and multidrug resistance reversal agent

Treatment with EAE declines the ROS level and revealed the ROS scavenging properties. Our data suggest that EAE is a novel anticancer and potent MDR reversal agent and may be a potential adjunctive agent for tumor chemotherapy.

  1.    Entzündungen

Antiinflammatory Constituents from Eclipta prostrata using RAW264.7 Macrophage Cells.

The present study may support the traditional use of Eclipta prostrata for the treatment of inflammatory-related diseases.

– Evaluation of Anti -Inflammatory Activity of Eclipta alba in rats.

Maximum inhibition (55.85%) was noted at the dose of 500 mg/kg after 3 hr of drug treatment in carrageenin induced paw oedema, whereas the Indomethacin (standard drug ) produced 61.30% of inhibition. In the chronic model (cotton pellet induced granuloma) the CEEA and standard drug showed decreased formation of granuloma tissue by 49.7,41.5,22.1% and 53.48 % respectively. The results indicate the potent anti-inflammatory effect and therapeutic efficacy of Eclipta alba extract on animal models, which is compared with Indomethacin.

  1.    Demenz

Investigation on the effect of eclipta alba on animal models of learning and memory.

The results revealed significant improvement of retrieval memory.

– Reports summarize dementia study results from D.I. Kim and co-researchers.

Investigators publish new data in the report ‚The butanol fraction of Eclipta prostrata (Linn) increases the formation of brain acetylcholine and decreases oxidative stress in the brain and serum of cesarean-derived rats.‘ According to recent research published in the journal Nutrition Research, „Eclipta prostrata has been used as a traditional medicinal plant to prevent dementia and to enhance memory in Asia. Its potential as a nootropic and as an antioxidant have been reported in mice.“

  1.    Haarausfall

Eclipta alba extract with potential for hair growth promoting activity.

The methanol extract of whole plant when tested for hair growth promoting potential, exhibited dose dependent activity in C57BL6 mice. The activity was assessed by studying the melanogenesis in resected skin, follicle count in the subcutis, skin thickness and surrogate markers in vehicle control and extract treated animals. These findings suggest that methanol extract of Eclipta alba may have potential as a hair growth promoter.

– Hair growth promoting activity of Eclipta alba in male albino rats.

Hair growth initiation time was significantly reduced to half on treatment with the extracts, as compared to control animals. The time required for complete hair growth was also significantly reduced.

  1.   Schmerzen

Analgesic studies on total alkaloids and alcohol extracts of Eclipta alba (Linn.) Hassk.

The results from this study show that both the ethanol extract as well as the total alkaloids produce good analgesic activity in all the different models of analgesia used. The total alkaloidal fraction was the most efficacious in all models tested.

Effect of Eclipta alba on Acute Seizure Models: a GABAA-mediated Effect.

Methanol extract of Eclipta alba exhibited potent anticonvulsant activity but has saturation of its pharmacological activity at 50 mg/kg. Hence, it can be concluded that methanol extract of Eclipta alba possesses potent anticonvulsant activity because of its positive modulatory effect on GABAA receptors.

Evaluation of antiaggressive activity of Eclipta alba in experimental animals.

Eclipta alba significantly minimized dominance (p<0.05) which is correlated to the level of aggression particularly with 200mg/kg in the water competition test.

Oral administration of Eclipta alba leaf aqueous extract enhances the non-specific immune responses and disease resistance of Oreochromis mossambicus.

The results indicate that dietary intake of E. alba aqueous leaf extract enhances the non-specific immune responses and disease resistance of O. mossambicus against A. hydrophila.

Therapeutic effect of aqueous extract from Ecliptae herba on bone metabolism of ovariectomized rats

EHE treatment prevented body weight gain and loss of uterine wet weight in ovariectomized rats. It remarkably increased bone mass in ovariectomized rats compared with ovariectomized controls. This suggests that EHE may be developed as an alternative therapeutic agent for osteoporosis induced by postmenopause.

Potent antioxidative and UVB protective effect of water extract of Eclipta prostrata L

WEP absorbs both UVA and UVB irradiation, and furthermore, the extract shows a dose-dependent response in the protection of HaCaT human keratinocytes and mouse fibroblasts 3T3 cells against UVB-induced cytotoxicity, which may result from a synergistic effect between chlorogenic acid and other active components present in WEP.

  1.   Malaria

Anti-malarial activity of Eclipta alba against Plasmodium berghei infection in mice

The methanolic leaf extract (250-750 mg/kg) produced a dose-dependant chemosupression or schizontocidal effect during early and established infection and high mean survival time (m.s.t.) values particularly in the group administered 750 mg/kg/day of extract. The plant extract also exhibited repository activity
