Cuscuta bewirkt auf Zellebene eine Verminderung der Produktion und Ablagerung von oxidativen Stoffwechselprodukten. Dies wirkt sich allgemein auf den Alterungsprozeß aus und im Besonderen bei Schwerhörigkeit, Immunschwäche, Hyperpigmentierungen, grauen Haaren, grauem Star und Krebs.
Es hat zudem hormonähnliche Wirkungen bei Spermienmangel, Unfruchtbarkeit, vorzeitigem Samenerguß, androgenem Haarausfall, Osteoporose, frühzeitiger weiblicher Pubertät und Gefahr von Fehlgeburt.

Es vermindert allgemein die Ausscheidung von Körpersäften und kann eingesetzt werden bei nervösem Durchfall, Polyurie, Ausfluß, überaktiver Blase.

Effects of flavonoids from Semen Cuscutae on the reproductive system in male rats.

FSC increased the weights of testis, epididymis and pituitary gland, and stimulated T and LH secretion both in vitro and in immature rats. FSC invigorates the reproductive system and reproductive endocrine function in male rats.

1.3.         Haarausfall

A study on the extracts of Cuscuta reflexa Roxb. in treatment of cyclophosphamide induced alopecia.

Groups treated with extracts of plant showed hair regrowth. Histopathology and gross morphologic observations for hair regrowth at shaved sites revealed active follicular proliferation.

Effect of Cuscuta reflexa Roxb on androgen-induced alopecia.

The petroleum ether extract of C. reflexa and its isolate is useful in treatment of androgen-induced alopecia by inhibiting the enzyme 5alpha-reductase.

1.4.         Frühzeitige weibliche Pubertät

Onset of puberty and ovarian steroidogenesis following adminstration of methanolic extract of Cuscuta reflexa Roxb. stem and Corchorus olitorius Linn. seed in mice.

Cuscuta reflexa stem and Corchorus olitorius seed treatment causes a remarkable delay in sexual maturation as evidenced by the age at vaginal opening and appearance of first estrus (cornified smear).

Antiosteoporotic compounds from seeds of Cuscuta chinensis.

Our findings validated the clinical use of TSZ in the treatment of osteoporosis, and demonstrated that kaempferol and hyperoside are the active compounds in TSZ for the osteogenic effect.

Cuscuta chinensis extract promotes osteoblast differentiation and mineralization in human osteoblast-like MG-63 cells.

In conclusion, this study shows that TSZ-AE enhanced ALP activity, collagen synthesis, BMP-2 expression, and mineralization in MG-63 cells. These results strongly suggest that C. chinensis can play an important role in osteoblastic bone formation and may possibly lead to the development of bone-forming drugs.

The study showed that Cuscuta reflexa inhibits LPS induced inflammatory responses in RAW264.7 cells through interplay of TNF-α, COX-2 and NF-κB signalling. It induced apoptosis in Hep3B cells through the up regulation of p53, BAX and down regulation of Bcl-2 and survivin.

Effect of Cuscuta chinensis water extract on 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene-induced skin papillomas and carcinomas in mice

Oral administration of the extract (1 body wt) thrice a week in 22 mice, started on the tenth day after the first application of DMBA to the 252nd day, markedly delayed the appearance and retarded the growth of papillomas and the incidence of carcinoma, relative to a control group with 28 mice, in a two-stage system of tumorigenesis. Its prophylactic effect was found to be statistically significant.

Effect of Cuscuta reflexa stem and Calotropis procera leaf extracts on glucose tolerance in glucose-induced hyperglycemic rats and mice.

Both methanol and chloroform extracts of Cuscuta reflexa whole plant demonstrated significant oral hypoglycemic activity in glucose-loaded rats at doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight.

The C chinensis ethanolic extract at an oral dose of both 125 and 250 mg/kg showed a significant hepatoprotective effect relatively to the same extent (P < 0.05) by reducing levels of glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP).
